Andrade Volunteers at the Irving Park Community Food Pantry’s Holiday Distribution

Dec 17, 2014

CHICAGO – In the spirit of giving back during the holiday season, state Rep. Jaime Andrade, D-Chicago, volunteered at the Irving Park Community Food Pantry’s annual holiday distribution this week. Andrade assembled and distributed bags of donated food items to families in need alongside nearly 100 other volunteers.

“The food pantry in our community does a wonderful job throughout the year taking care of hundreds of our neighbors from all walks of life every single week,” said Andrade. “I’m always glad to help members of our community that need a little extra assistance in these difficult winter months.”

Andrade held a food drive at his district office leading up to the distribution, collecting items that were given to families at the holiday event. In addition to non-perishable food items, the Irving Park Community Food Pantry also collects children’s toys, pet food, toiletries, and more throughout the year, with distributions every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Irving Park United Methodist Church, located at 3801 N. Keeler Ave. in Chicago.

“Just a few grocery items can make a world of difference for a family during the holidays, but hunger in our neighborhood is a problem year round,” said Andrade. “I encourage everyone to contribute what they can throughout the year, and I look forward to continuing our work with the food pantry in feeding families in our community.”
